The Hartford Jazz Society is privileged to announce a new weekly series in the heart of downtown Hartford. The very best musicians from around the region and beyond will perform in an intimate club setting. Talented students, as well as young musicians just launching careers, will share the stage. We will frequently present established artists from NYC, Boston and beyond.

The Primary Purpose of this series is to give students (K-12 and college) a weekly opportunity to hone their artistry by performing onstage with experienced jazz musicians in an actual club setting. It is universally recognized that this kind of actual working experience is essential to the development of all jazz musicians. Accordingly, the active and simultaneous participation of both experienced musicians and students is critical to the long-term success of this series.

Format: Scheduled musicians play an opening set beginning at approximately 8:00 PM. Following an opening set, students are invited to sit in for a hard-blowing jam session sure to keep fans on the edge of their seats. This is an ideal opportunity for young musicians to challenge themselves and learn from the pros. Students are highly encouraged to attend both the opening set and the jam session. Please note that the jam sessions are not intended to be unstructured, "free for all" events but will be carefully coordinated by a veteran musician -- we believe this method will produce the best learning experience.

Under 21s: The Hartford Jazz Society encourages everyone to attend the Monday Night Jam. We hope to create an important opportunity for young people to hear the best musicians working in jazz today and to offer students the challenge of high quality jam sessions.

We encourage parents to accompany their children. In addition, Black-eyed Sally's will implement special procedures to make this a safe venue for young people. During the Monday Night Jam, anyone wishing to drink alcoholic beverages must show proof of age and will be required to wear a plastic wristband. Anyone without a wristband will be restricted to the dining area.
