![]() HISTORY OF THE HARTFORD JAZZ SOCIETY The Hartford Jazz Society enjoys a history as rich as it is diverse. Founded in 1960 by dedicated JAZZ aficionados, it is the oldest continuously operating jazz society in the country. For over 40 years, the all-volunteer Society has never wavered from its founders' goals: to improve JAZZ as America's gift to the music world, and to foster in each succeeding generation an appreciation and love for JAZZ in all its many forms.
The aims and purposes of the HARTFORD JAZZ SOCIETY, INC., hereinafter called HJS, are the fostering of a greater interest, understanding, and appreciation of Jazz by the following means:

Insuring together that its future will be bright with the promise of new energy - Hartford Jazz Society Concert Season - each year, the Hartford Jazz Society sponsors concerts by leading jazz groups and musicians, as well as outstanding local talents. It is a chance to sample the rich diversity of styles that has always been JAZZ.
